April is here with longer daylight, the start of the dawn chorus and masses of colour in the garden. Many queen bumblebees are still flying around feeding themselves up and investigating nest sites, and an upturned clay flowerpot stuffed with some dry moss in a dry sheltered spot could help them, although not all queens are endowed with much sense to make use of my provision: I watched one today enamoured with a fox hole which is going to be a major construction challenge to convert into a useful nest!
